Book launch event: Vínculo do mês: uma experiência de comunicação de ciência (2019-2024)

The book Vínculo do mês: uma experiência de comunicação de ciência (2019-2024), now available as an ebook, was launched on 12 July at 2.30pm in the Salão Nobre of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences (Academia das Ciências de Lisboa – ACL). The event was coordinated by the project’s principal investigator, Professor Maria de Lurdes Rosa and researcher Rita Nóvoa. It was also attended by Professor José Luís Cardoso, President of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, President of the European Research Council (2014-2019; 2020-2021) and Professor Nuno Pousinho, as a representative of the History Teachers Association (Associação de Professores de História – APH).

With a preface written by Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon and an introduction by Professor Maria de Lurdes Rosa and researcher Rita Sampaio da Nóvoa, this book brings together the forty-eight texts that, over four years, were published under the monthly communication initiative ‘Entail of the month/Vínculo do mês’. Therefore, it encompasses the contributions of multiple authors in the research and depiction of entails with diverse origins and trajectories.

From its first publication, in December 2020, to its last, in November 2024, Vínculo do mês bears witness to the involvement of experienced and, particularly, young scholars and students in the study of entails, not only as VINCULUM’s research fellows, but also within the context of secondary education, through the collaboration of the teachers and classes enrolled in the “Cria vínculos com a História” school contest. The support and endeavour of the owners of historic houses and private archives, as well as other private and public entities (including town and parish councils and heritage associations) were decisive in strengthening and broadening the scope of the “Entail of the month[‘s]” publications, which spread to the most diverse regions of Portugal and, internationally, to Cape Verde and Brazil.

The launching of this book thus fulfils one of the several science communication goals set by the VINCULUM Project, as a result of its commitment to the rediscovery, protection and enhancement of cultural heritage and History.
