Elective course “Proof, Information, Memory. Training in Archival Science and Atom” (2 semesters)
The objective of this course is to enable students to understand the basic concepts of archival science, providing them with the necessary tools to articulate international archival principles and standards and to apply methodologies for the organisation, classification and description of documentary collections. The course also offers training on AtoM (Access to Memory) open access archival description software, on best practices of preservation and conservation of documents, and on strategies of communication and diffusion of information in archives. The training will be developed in collaboration between NOVA FCSH, the Centro de Estudos de História Religiosa (UCP) and the ERC VINCULUM project (IEM-NOVA FCSH).
Modules:
1st Semester: Archival principles and norms / Organization and classification of archival fonds / Training in archival description and creation of archival description tools
2nd Semester: AtoM 1 – Basic / AtoM 2 – Advanced / Preservation, conservation and promotion
